Experts Explore Mercury in Vaccines Controversy

After speaking out in the national media last Spring about the use of thimerosal, a mercury compound, in children’s vaccines, Deirdre Imus brought together about a dozen experts for a dialogue to discuss their work and the potential link of environmental exposure to mercury and autistic spectrum disorders (ASDs).

Participants in the private roundtable included leading researchers, authors and doctors involved in mercury exposures or ASDs, as well as members of national autism organizations.

Thimerosal was widely used in children's vaccines until a federal program began to phase it out in 1999. It is still found in some children's flu vaccines.

The session was moderated by David Kirby, author of Evidence of Harm that focuses on the controversy.
